I started performing frequently around the age of 15. Considering that I’m a hip hop artist, and most hip hop shows are in clubs, and venues that serve alcohol, this always made for an interesting time.
At almost every show I played, I had to be escorted by security on and off the stage. I would literally stand outside the backstage, wait to be let in, perform, and then get escorted out. I can remember several times where I was standing outside a venue after a show, and people wanted to talk or offered to buy me a drink, and I would have to talk to them through a barrier, and explain why I couldn’t go inside.
When I was 17, I was playing a show in North Hollywood and something funny happened. After playing my set, I got off stage and I was approached by a few people to take pictures. At the same time, the venue’s security guard was trying his best to get me out of club and off of the floor, but I wanted to make sure that everyone got a picture who wanted one. Before I knew it, this big ass dude literally scooped me up, carried me across the venue, and dropped me outside! At the time, I was a little pissed off, but in hindsight, it’s one of the funniest things that’s happened to me at a show.
