Alkaline Trio Fall Tour / Riot Fest Chicago – TOUR REVIEW

At this year’s Riot Fest, we had the pleasure of watch a few of the touring bands playing the festival. One of them being, Chicago’s own, Alkaline Trio. Check out our review of the their set after the break.

A local favorite, Alkaline Trio, took the stage at Riot Fest on Sunday as one of the main attractions. The band is currently on their fall tour, which is centered around their appearance at this festival. So, combine the hometown crowd, with the amazing atmosphere of Riot Fest and that should equal a spectacular show, but that was not the case. The band’s singer, Matt Skiba, was lake luster at best and ever the immense amount of energy from bassist/singer, Dan Adriano, couldn’t save the band’s set.

I was very eager to see trio and I made sure I got up front and center for their performance, but once they started playing, well, the overall sound was decent, but it just really didn’t look like they wanted to be there. I’m not going to sugar coat anything. I’m going to be blunt with this one. Yes, it was a decent set, and yes it seemed like Dan was really trying to be enthusiastic, but it was just a poor effort and a very disappointing overall. Compared to every other act at Riot Fest,  Alkaline Trio ranked super low on the enjoyable set scale and was far from the top of the list of great acts that weekend. From what I heard and saw, most fans, die hard and weekend listener, there was more disappointment than happiness.
