Amadians

In this Dream Tour segment, the funk pop band, Amadians, reveals who they would want on their ultimate tour lineup. You can check out their picks, after the break.

Touring is all too familiar to the instrumental section of Amadians (uh-may-dee-enz); Kyle Fox (drums), Ian Powell (bass), & James Roth (guitar) have all toured extensively with several different bands over the years. I (Courtney Devon, the vocalist), have only ever been on tour with my university choir. Needless to say, I often dream about what the perfect tour looks like; the perfect line-up, the best amalgamation of genres, the most interesting mix of artists, the highest energy level without becoming monotonous. Or, I just dream of bringing all my favorite bands on tour with me because there are no rules in my head. Here’s my attempt to mix both together into the perfect Amadians tour a la Courtney’s dreams.
1. Anderson .Paak
– This choice is extremely self-serving. Anderson is my favorite artist of the last 10 years; he is the right amount of fresh with a distinctive, old-soul-esque touch. Hip-hop and soul are my two favorite genres of music, and he does both so perfectly. He may be one of the hottest commodities in the music industry currently, but that doesn’t stop me from dreaming of warming up the stage for the man himself. Yes LAWD
2. ABBA
– This one is a basically unanimous band choice. ABBA have been offered like, a bazillion dollars to do a reunion tour, & have refused every time. If ever they had a change of heart, Amadians would do whatever it took to get on that tour. Complete strangers from all walks of life have told us after seeing our live show that our music is reminiscent of ABBA, & every time it happens, we cry a little. What. A. Dream.
3. Justin Timberlake
– JT is the epitome of pop perfection in my eyes. He encapsulates the mix of funk, soul, hip hop, electronic & pop that I’ve been chasing since I started delving into songwriting. His album, The 20/20 Experience, is a clinic on how to write & arrange the perfect pop album. Plus he’s hilarious. 11/10 would tour with.
4. Parliament-Funkadelic
– This is another heavily self-serving choice. P-Funk are the masters of the funk. I love the funk. They never take themselves too seriously, so their albums, live shows, & media are psychedelic, often humorous, & constantly engaging. Legends like George Clinton, Bootsie Collins, Mallia Franklin, & William “Billy Bass” Nelson graced our ears with their funky magic. I would love to share a stage with them, but I’d probably explode from excitement & disbelief first.
If I ever toured with even one of these bands, I could die happy. But the lovely thing is, our music actually fits pretty well alongside any one of them. Which, to me, is an affirmation that the artists I love most are directly influencing my art, & that’s a wonderful thing.

Keep up with the band on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
