Amanda Mair – PRESHOW RITUALS

In this Preshow Rituals segment, the indie pop artist, Amanda Mair, shares what she does before every show. You can check out her rituals, after the break.

The same morning as my gig I kind of always wake up like waiting for someone to wake me up with a birthday cake. I have the same feeling as I had when I was a little girl on my birthday. Sadly no one ever wakes me up with a cake though. I usually try to do my make up before I leave because you never know if you even have a loge. And doing makeup in a dark venue is the worst.
I always pack half of my wardrobe because I never can decide what to wear until 10 min before the show. And I always wear so many layers of clothes since its ALWAYS freezing cold at every single venue, why is that? Considering to put ”higher the heat” on my rider. I guess no one will care about that though.
I struggle to carry my gear and bags down the stairs from my apartment, take the car and pick up the band and drive to the venue. Since I’m always late my band now learned to convince me to be 10 min ahead. When we arrive we usually start the soundcheck directly. After helping with the instrument I’m just strolling around in my 10 layers of clothes, hat, scarf with a cup of tea.
After soundcheck I try to decide what to wear, stressing about talking in between my songs since that’s kind of my biggest fear in life. So I leave everyone and look for space (often in the cellar or a forgotten area to put down some things to talk about in my phone just to clear my head. I get kind of annoyed when people want to chat before my gigs, I like to be quiet (very social, not lol). I do love the nerves, it’s like the high before the gig so I don’t get too stressed about that. The minutes before the gig, I jump around as an excited animal and I guess my band always get the same amazed reaction of my mood swings. And oh, I never touch the fridge with alcohol before the gig. I just can’t drink before staging!
