When considering what my “dream tour” would be, a wide variety of artists come to mind. While my influences have stemmed greatly from a more acoustic standpoint, ultimately what my music is today can relate back to a love for psychedelic rock/pop. I think when brought together, these differing genres could make something pretty cool!
On the indie-folk spectrum, Sufjan Stevens would be at the top of my list for people I’d love to collaborate with on the road. Having the ability to truly emulate emotion in a performance, whether it be studio or live, is something I admire in any artist, and Sufjan does that flawlessly. When I want to delve deeper into my feelings, he’s the artist I turn to.
Bon Iver (aka Justin Vernon) is another artist I drew inspiration from at a young age. Often his lyrics are quite abstract, but he so accurately portrays the sense of the lyrics in the entire production of the song, which is a skill I’ve always appreciated. It’d be super cool to be on the road with him.
When I discovered Mac DeMarco for the first time, I think that was a bit of a turning point for me. He’s someone I would love to be on tour with. He introduced me to the world of lo-fi dream pop/rock and made me want to write songs that make people feel good. He’s one of the more authentic artists I’ve come to appreciate.
Lastly, Alvvays is a band that would be a blast to tour with. They’re a local band from Toronto and one of the biggest inspirations for my music today. The arrangements and melody lines created are so original and well executed. Their music always feels like a dream to listen to.
In my dream, these artists and I join in a Canadian coast-to-coast tour, in the more intimate outdoor venues, playing in perfect weather as the sun sets. There would be a collaboration of all artists and it’d be an experience you wouldn’t want to miss out on.
