Apate - CRAZY TOUR STORIES

In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the nu-metal/metalcore band, Apate, shares one of their stories from being on the road. You can check out the story below:

When we first started touring regularly, over 6 years ago now, we were young and naive about how many insane scenarios it could throw at you that you would have to adapt and overcome. One particular instance that stands out in my brain immediately is when some time around late 2017 we had booked our own headline tour that was ending with an Adelaide show. I won’t name the venue, but they were having some major issues with power and their house sound had called in sick. Members from all the bands pitched in to get the stage routed properly and the speakers working, but 3 songs into the first band (23/19) the unstable power caused their guitarists tube amp to start smoking and one of the FOH speakers to go dead.

To the venue owners credit, they gave us back the venue hire fee and some free beers, but we had managed to somehow get 60 kids through the door and we weren’t about to give up on giving them what they had payed for. Unfortunately our friends The Gloom In The Corner who were set to perform had to leave, so the bill was cut down to just 23/19, Falcifer and us. We raced the foldbacks out to the tiny outdoor acoustic stage they had in the beer garden, setting up with only one speaker for the entire band and one for the crowd.

So with one speaker for the crowd, and one speaker for the band to all hear from, the show went on as planned. Only 1 person refunded their ticket and left, everyone else stuck around for a yarn and some drinks, and honestly the fairy lights strung over the entire crowd, playing outside in a cold Adelaide winter, it had a bit of a vibe. So many amazing core memories and life long close friends were made that night. It stands out as collectively as one of our favorite shows, and probably the most energetic ADL crowd we have ever played to. We have had so many massive highlights and insane stories since those days, but i’ll save those for another time!
