Arms Akimbo – PRESHOW RITUALS

In this Preshow Rituals segment, the indie rock band, Arms Akimbo, share what they do before every show. You can check out their rituals, after the break.

We’re a pretty easy bunch to satisfy. When we’re traveling we like to listen to music together on the road – either new stuff one guy brings to the table or to pump us up when energy is low, we’ll play an album we can all sing along to. We’re also all pretty big fans of standup comedy and if the mood strikes, we’ll try out a new comic. We don’t always have this opportunity, but if we get to cities with some time to spare we really like to explore the area; we take local eatery recommendations (yelp helps) but we gotta make sure Matt gets a good salad, or he simply will not perform. Peter likes comics so if there’s a comic book or record store in the area that can be an option.

As for our behavior when we get to the actual venue that’s a whole different deal. We like to watch the bands we play with, even if that means skulking in the back of the room. Perhaps the most crucial part of our night is that roughly 2 hours before we are about to go on, we get absurdly antsy so we start freestyle rapping. We’re all truly awful, but it gets our nerves out. The topics span anywhere from offensively insulting each other, to Christopher Walken impression-based humor…as you can see we kinda have cabin fever by this point.

After everyone spits their fair share of bars, we huddle up, one guy a night gives a speech about how we love each other, and then we get sappy right before we go tear it up.

There you have it. Nothing technical or too exciting. Just horribly delivered raps and a big hug.
