In this Tour Tips segment, the pop artist, Ava Della Pietra, recommends advice for being a musician on the road. You can check out the tips below:
1. Pick fun tour buddies: Surround yourself with supportive and kind people, including your band, tour manager, sound engineers, etc. Positive energy is contagious and can improve everyone's mood, leading to more enjoyable experiences and better performances. Remember, you'll be spending a lot of time together on the road, so good vibes are super important!
2. Create memorable moments: One of my favorite tour memories was a spontaneous trip to McDonald's with my band after a show. We were all super tired and a bit delirious, but we decided to grab some shakes and snacks, and we ended up talking and laughing for hours. It turned into one of the highlights of the tour!
3. Mix things up: If you're comfortable with it, keep your performances fresh by varying your setlist and interacting differently with your audience each night. This not only keeps you energized but can also help tailor your show to meet the various preferences of different audiences based on your location.
4. Pack a post-show comfort bag: After a high-energy performance, I always appreciated having a bag packed with essentials like sweatpants, makeup remover, sneakers, or anything else that helps me feel comfy and relaxed!
5. Promote your music at each performance: Touring is awesome not only because of the new and exciting experiences it brings, but also because it provides an excellent opportunity to expand your audience. At every performance, remind your audience how they can follow your music by having clear signage with your name or by hanging a QR code with your social media handles. This way, your fans can stay up-to-date on all of your amazing music!!
