Ava Valianti - FIRST CONCERT EVER

In this First Concert Ever segment, the indie pop artist, Ava Valianti, talks about the story of her first experience with live music. You can check out the story below:

I had just turned 8 years old when I went to my first concert! My mom’s friend Joanna wanted to get me a birthday present, and just happened to have season pass tickets to the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium (she’s a professional concert go-er!). The last gift I received on my birthday was two tickets to a concert for someone who I’d never heard of. She was this super indie, unknown artist - Taylor Swift. My mom and I streamed her whole Reputation album in less than a day to prepare, and we became fans right off the bat. I bought a T-Swift Red shirt and tied it up with a hair tie, and borrowed my dad’s shiny glasses. I went thinking that I was so cool, and I was so shocked at the amount of people at the venue!

We found our seats and I gawked at how close we were to the stage (in reality, we were pretty far, but little me was very impressed). I listened to her opener, Charli XCX, and I’d never heard of her either. I had, however, heard of her other opener, Camila Cabello. I don’t think I’ve ever screamed that loud in my life! I had just used “Havana” as the song I danced to for my 3rd Grade talent show, so I was ecstatic to say the least.

Then, the lights went off and music began as Taylor walked onto the stage. The high-pitched squeal that I heard from the audience was unmatched! As she started to sing, I stood in the aisles, doing insane dance moves while people tried to walk around me to their seats. I was screaming all the lyrics, which I knew by heart, although I didn’t know them at all 2 weeks prior. I also tried adding my own riffs, which I’m sure people around me were less than excited to hear (I wasn’t the best singer back then). At one point, she was singing “Delicate” as the glowing platform she was on rose above the stage and she waved to the crowd below her. At that moment, I knew that I wanted to perform like she did, and I’ve never looked back. My mom and I had so much fun together at that concert! It was definitely a life-changing moment for me. But yeah, I definitely had a flair for the dramatic back then!
