AVOID – TOUR TIPS

In this Tour Tips segment, the heavy rock band, AVOID, give you their tips for being on tour. You can check out the feature, after the break.

1. Planet Fitness
If you’re super broke like us, you probably don’t get hotels every night, which usually means there are 5+ sweaty humans living in a van together, and showers don’t come often. Planet Fitness is like $20 a month and they’re EVERYWHERE, plus you can get a guest in. So say you’re a 6 member group, you would only need 3 memberships, and all 6 of you are showering every day.
2. Eat Healthy
When you’re on the road it’s really easy to eat 2 pounds of Taco Bell every day. It’s cheap, easy and delicious, so why not?! But after a couple days you’ll start feeling it. Believe it or not, that Cheesy Gordita Crunch is betraying you. Now I’m not saying that you should only have gluten-free kale Kombucha for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but even just an apple or a banana once in a while helps. Most Wal-Marts will have a fresh produce and free overnight parking so you get a half decent meal and somewhere you can park your shaggin’ wagon.
3. Maximize Every Second On The Road
The biggest piece of advice that I have been given, and that I could give, is utilizing all the time that you are out on the road. If you have the downtime, go and visit a local mall/coffee shop/store and to promote and make friends. Make yourself some download cards and hand them out. It’s a simple way to get your name out and potentially get people to your gig. Plus, you get to see more of the city that you’re in. You’re only there for the day, hustle and make that trip worth it!
4. Multi-Vitamins & Socks
Getting sick is one of the easiest things that can happen to any person while on tour. If you’re sharing a van with four or more people breathing the same air for hours on end it’s really easy to swap nasty germs with your friends. Take a multivitamin every day and drink a bottle of Emergen-C water somewhat regularly as a precaution. We all know that getting sick makes you miserable but nothing compares to getting sick on tour. Also, buy extra socks. Once they’re gone, they’re very very gone.
5. Be Active On Social Media
When you’re on the road, be sure to post often on social media to keep people up to date with what’s going on. We get to do a lot of cool things on the road, and sometimes the downtime of sitting in the van can make it feel boring, but you’re really getting the chance to do something only a percentage of people in this world get to do. Your friends, family, and fans truly do want to know what it’s like to be on tour, even the stuff we tend to think is boring really interests them.

Keep up with the band on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
