Baha Men – PRESHOW RITUALS

Being a huge a$$ band of 9, we’re usually all over the place before a performance.

Our MD and lead guitarist, Herschel Small usually works with the front line running scales just to get us warmed up and to visit any harmonies that he felt we didn’t execute well at the last rehearsal or performance. Lead guitarist Pat Carey is sometimes involve involved in this exercise as well. If not, he’d be in a corner having his own rock ‘n roll concert… lol

Monks (percussionist), wears his headphones and to listen to rehearsal recordings. You’d be able to hear him as he scats out percussive hits which we like to snap and make fun off. He also tries to demonstrate dance moves that he thinks the front line should incorporate into the routine. That’s usually the exact same salsa shuffle that looks pretty good when he does it. (Which is expected considering that it’s most likely the only dance he knows.)

Basically, it’s a laid back, yet talkative, crack a joke or two atmosphere until we circle up to pray. Isaiah, (Bass and band leader) randomly calls out a name to lead the prayer, then we head to the stage!
