A dream tour is an interesting concept for me. I do a lot of dreaming, but I don’t know how many faces I’ve pictured sharing a stage with… I guess I just imagine the feeling more than anything. The feeling of being on stage and being welcomed by new faces that somehow know the words to my songs. The feeling of getting to watch other incredible artists do what they do with all of their specific nuances night after night, and getting to learn from them.
I feel like a lot of artists have all-time favorite bands or people that they’ve idolized since they were wee babies. I never really had that, other than maybe the Backstreet Boys, and I don’t necessarily think they’d be a good fit for me to open for ;) Maybe that’s why this is so hard for me – Most of my favorite artists, I have only come to know as an adult.
After some thought though, I think my dream tour would have to be opening for Queen. The star quality of Freddy Mercury and the all-out energy of the performance of their endless anthemic hit songs would be life-changing – but I think more than anything, listening to, and watching, the crowd during their set every evening would be the most awe-inspiring part. There’s no way that you could watch a Queen show without singing along, moving your body, feeling connected to your neighbor who relates to the same words as you somehow, and that not emotionally hitting you like a bag of bricks.
I don’t think I could open for that show and not immediately make it my mission to create the same experience for my audiences. Even just reflecting on that now, it’s a great reminder of the importance of curating an experience that is authentic to you, easy to connect to, and somehow still makes a stadium of people feel like they know each other. I can’t wait to tour soon once the dust settles with everything going on with the pandemic with that in mind, and do everything I can to create an effortless environment for connection when we all are in such need of it.
