Before every show, I take a bit of time to center myself and really live in the moment & space I’m performing – I get a little nervous and my head is always thinking forward, so it’s really important to me for calmness and clarity before walking out on stage. I recently made some vision boards that help with it, too.
I’ll do some vocal warm-ups, chill with the band and listen to music an hour or so before we go on – for the most part, I’m usually pretty quiet though. It’d be minutes before we start and I just run shit through my head like lyrics and run of show and hope I don’t fuck up.
But eventually, the nerves go away 10-15 seconds into the first song, as soon as I look into the crowd. I’m there for them, for that moment – and it’s the connection that makes me feel it’s all okay…even when things go wrong. I never really learn from that though, haha. Regardless, I’m nervous each time – I guess the whole goal is to make a connection, and I always want that to be as perfect as it can be.
