1. Stephen king audio books: if you’re driving long distances sometimes you need a change in pace from music. We listen to Stephen king audio books which are light and easy to follow and can make up to 40 hours in a van go by like nothing.
2. Kick out any members you have over four. With four people in any standard van you can have 1 driver and member lounging in the front with 2 guys with their own full bench seats in the back. Then everyone is happy.
3. Fuck trailers. They are a pain and make it hard to park and drive. If your smart you get an extended 15 passenger van and minimize your gear enough to fit in the back.
4. Bring lots of new music. I have most stuff on vinyl and we use our iPhones or ipods to listen in the van. I was behind the times but someone showed me in Montreal a quick way to download bit torrents of full albums. I went bat crazy and left my computer on overnight and downloaded 40-50 new records I wanted but was too broke to buy. Now we have lots of interesting tunes to check out.
5. Finally have a credit card with some form of points on it. This should be obvious anyway, but if you put all your hotels and gas and expenses on the one card and pay it back with your profits from shows/merch then it is very easy to keep track of all your expenses. Plus after the band spends 10,000$ plus on expenses on a tour, I’ve got myself a free trip to Mexico. Don’t tell them that though!
