Black Absinthe – PRESHOW RITUALS

In this Preshow Rituals segment, the heavy metal band, Black Absinthe, share what they do before every show. You can check out their rituals, after the break.

We have a few things consistently done at each show you could consider a ‘ritual.’ The majority of them involve stretching out the neck and getting loose. We like to do a decent amount of windmilling and if you don’t stretch that shit out before going in it is going to suck the day after! Be sure to give the legs a good stretch as well for prompt delivery of karate kicks to the air.

A year or so back we had gotten a piece of advice to when you’re a few minutes from going on find an empty hallway or clear area and do a flail-fest for half a minute. The fucks a flail-fest? We’d liken it to Chris Farley being attacked by a swarm of bees. A lot of kicking, head flailing, and elbows flying. Though we emphasize an EMPTY hallway is ideal if you’re aiming to avoid hitting shit.

The only other consistent pattern we have is when heading into a city outside Toronto at some juncture on the ride over Kiss’s classic 1987 album Crazy Nights will be played in the car. That may or may not count as a ‘ritual’ but damn its good to listen to.

That’s about all the pre-show ritual advice we got aside from the usual wisdom of take a piss and grab a beer before tearing up a set.
