Blanks – PRESHOW RITUALS

In this Preshow Rituals segment, the electro pop artist, Blanks, reveals what he does before taking the stage. You can check out the story, after the break.

The absolute best thing before a show would be to get a slice of pizza. I can safely say the band agrees with that idea, but my manager not so much haha! No matter how much I would like to have pizza, I usually end up eating an apple. I feel like eating healthy helps keep my mind in shape to be able to give my best at every show. Yeah, pretty different from the rock-n-roll riders you might’ve heard about, but I like my apples!

There’s this strange gap between soundcheck and showtime we’re you’re ready for the show but still have to wait a few hours. In this gap, I oftentimes repeat lyrics back to me in my head. There is always that one song which has a difficult verse or weird line I just can’t seem to remember, so by doing this I try to get that part in my short term memory so I won’t forget it haha! Also: this gap is a perfect time to make a funny video for on my Instagram or TikTok or whatever, which is usually my bandmates and me showing off some weird dance moves to one of the songs we’re playing in the live show.

And last but not least: I love doing something with the people that come to the show before we play the show. For example, when I played shows in Amsterdam and New York, I did a meet up with a group of fans and had a chat with all of them. It’s so nice to be able to talk to the people, get to know them and vibe with them before a show. And a few weeks back, when I was playing a show in my hometown, I was able to take a dozen people on a bus tour around the city and show them my favorite places, play them some new unreleased tracks and generally just hang out! Getting to know the people who are going to be in front of me at the show is amazing and so much fun.
