Wow what a great question! I think first on our dream tour lineup would be Needtobreathe. We went to one of their shows right before we started dating and it had a massive effect on us (both relationally and as musicians). Bethany had already followed their music and invited me to go and of course, I was going to say yes to the beautiful girl I had a crush on asking me out to a show. But it was the first time I really felt the “magic” at a show. I hadn’t personally followed their music before but I remember this amazing experience of falling in love with a band I had never heard before and the incredible feeling I had leaving that show. That was a huge moment of us both realizing that music could have such a powerful effect on people and that it could leave people with this feeling of, “wow… I just experienced something magical”. Needtobreathe has remained one of our all-time favorite bands and greatest inspirations. From their passion and talent, they bring to their live shows to their creativity as writers/producers.
Next would hands down be Johnnyswim. Johnnyswim was another band that we got to fall in love with together. But what also drew us the most to their music was who they are as individuals. We found ourselves looking up to them so much as a husband and wife duo chasing their dreams together, having kids, and traveling the world. As we began to find ourselves in those seasons of our life as well we really realized how much they were a huge example of how this crazy dream of doing music can go hand in hand with an even crazier dream of starting a family. On top of all that they taught us just how much fun you can have playing a show! They always seem like they are having the time of their lives when they play and we absolutely love that about them. They also seem like people we could have a good time with and just enjoying hanging out together.
Finally, I think we would put Phil Wickham on this dream tour as well. Bethany and I both have lead worship our whole lives at our church and Phil Wickham has been a huge inspiration for us as worship leaders for years now. As a writer, he has penned some of the most powerful worship songs we have ever experienced. And as a musician, he’s continued to inspire us not to settle but to continually push forward for the best. That affects us in a lot of ways but specifically as musicians to push ourselves to grow in our craft. As writers, it means not settling in our songs but stewarding them until we feel they are the best they can be. And even in production at church. We are a part of a small body with limited resources but we’ve never felt like being a small church meant we had to settle for a bad sound. Instead, we took this same principle and are continuing to steward and grow our production so that even in a small church we can give the best we have to offer in worship.
There are TONS of other bands we would be absolutely honored to play with but these three definitely had a huge impact on our lives and it would be a dream come true to share the stage with any of them.
