My first concert ever was at Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (my hometown) in 2013. I was 16 and I went alone to meet up with my friends who left earlier in the day to go walk around and chill before the headliners played. There were no headliners I was crazy about seeing, we just all had free tickets and wanted to make sure we could use them before the festival ended.
Summerfest gets so packed out that cell phones lose reception in the evenings which makes it nearly impossible to communicate with anyone you’re not physically with. We had a plan to meet at a specific spot but apparently, my friends tried texted me a change of location as I was pulling up (I, of course, never got the text). I waited for like 30 minutes and eventually just walked off alone to go find a show and still make a night of it. I ended up seeing Pretty Lights entirely solo and it was an amazing night. I realized right away that great live music should be able to be enjoyed solo and saw how much stage production adds to a show.
