The German electronic band, Captain Capa, is currently on the Vans Warped Tour 2014. While they are on the tour, they will be writing an exclusive blog for us, to keep us filled in on everything they have going on. You can check out the third entry, after the break.
Half of the tour is over and we just entered the common state of feeling at home. It’s the weird part in the middle of a long summer where you leave all your homesickness behind and finally start enjoying whats around you to the fullest. Sadly, it’s also the part where you realize all of the amazing stuff surrounding you is going to end very soon. We keep meeting awesome people at Warped every day, and – especially for us as foreigners – we can’t say for sure if we ever meet each other again. Which is crazy, as our 12 headed bus crew almost feels like family to us.
Now that we’re caught in the routine of touring we finally found some time to stroll around the festival and actually see some bands. Of course we caught a lot of the shows on our own stage, including Crizzly, Antiserum, Nit Grit, MC Chris and fell in love with all of them. And after falling in love with K.Flays set and Pacific Dubs mellow feel- good sound we even widened our horizon to other stages, applauding the amazing Bad Rabbits or watching Born of Osiris go crazy.
A lot of the bands around here started to bond in the most amazing ways. We knew there would be guys from other bands hanging around on stage – it’s common knowledge that people just hang out and watch bands from behind the scenes. But what’s happening on the Beatport stage these days is plain hilarious. The drummer from Watsky joins DJane Nicola Bear to rock out on the snare, the whole gang performs a dance on MC Chris’ famous “Nerd Girl” song and the boys from Born of Osiris suddenly jump the stage to scream over Nit Grits Dubstep beats. Warped has become a playground of creativity and everyone involved just keeps looking for ways to make it even less boring and more exciting.
All of that fits perfectly into our theory of seeing Warped as a summer camp. There are the cliques – the freaks and geeks, the cool guys and the nerds, the camp counselors (production crew) and the daily lookout for some friends at the catering-area. Some of the guys around us even fall in love or find themselves desperately looking for their very own Warped-crush at the famous Barbecues.
The daily surprise of playing a show without knowing when or where exactly it’s going to happen didn’t treat us that well in the past days. We had a rainy show in the mud of Darien Center and a very late set in Camden while the few kids that were still hanging around stuck with Yellowcard. But Camden taught us how glad we can be to have friends on this tour. All of our Warped-buddies showed up and formed the most lovely crowd we could ever want, circle pit of love included. One day later in Hartford we’re back in the game, entertaining a crowd of enthusiastic kids in the middle of the festival.
The communal feeling we were looking for on this tour is even bigger and stronger than we could have ever imagined. Warped turns out to be everything we wished it would be. This will probably not be us skyrocketing to the US pop hall of fame, but it already is us having the time of our lives over here and rocking the shit out of our stage. Three more weeks to go!
