Oklahoma has always given us some wild experiences. Last Spring, we were invited to perform at Pikestock in Chandler, OK. This is an annual event held by a fraternity at the University of Oklahoma. After driving too many hours through the middle-of-nowhere, we came to a big ranch where the concert was taking place. A couple of country-ass truck drivers escorted us to the stage, which was even further away from civilization, then ‘mudded’ through the pond that was behind the stage area. Shit was wild. Everybody was partying from morning until night, and we couldn’t help but indulge as much as possible.
We knew from the moment that we had arrived that the evening was going to be an interesting one. While Jackson was doin’ his thang in one of the Port-A-Potties before our set, a big monster-sized truck drives through the pond and runs straight into his stall. Luckily it didn’t tip because that would have been hilarious. But wait…it gets better.
After our set was finished, and we had begun loading out when a big brawl ensued in the crowd. Since the entire audience had been getting loaded all day, it was bound to happen at some point. But out of nowhere, we started hearing shots being fired. Some dude had gotten a shotgun out of his truck and was trying to break the crowd up. Probably 20-30 people were in the middle of this fight, and they decided to chase after one another in their trucks. We were sitting in the bed of some random person’s truck, who was apparently involved in the brawl. He comes up the hill and sees us, and we decided to bolt.
After running to our cars and lighting up some good ol’ herbals, dozens of FBI and police vehicles come barreling over the hill to the scene. Next thing we know, we’re sitting in a hot-boxed car while 2 people are being questioned by police only 10 feet away. The smartest thing we could do was just to pretend to sleep and leave first thing in the morning. And we did just that. Oklahoma fucking rules.
