1. Pack light. I made the mistake of bringing way too much stuff on my first tour! It was such a hassle to drag everything around. I’ve learned to bring clothes to mix and match, Tide pods, and quarters for doing laundry at the hotel. I also have a mini travel steamer that takes up almost no space and gets all the wrinkles out. If you can’t carry it all by yourself, you have too much stuff (music gear not included).
2. Bring Snacks. I am not naturally a healthy eater, I love candy and chips which are plentiful at gas stations. I’ve started bringing trail mix and apples on the road to snack on. I also have a water bottle with a filter so I don’t have to buy bottled water.
3. Try to keep a normal schedule. You don’t get a lot of sleep on the road, and as a singer, that can be disastrous for your voice. I don’t stay up late unless I need to! I also try to work out once a day and eat like I do at home. It is much easier said than done, but I notice a big difference when I try to live like I do at home while on the road.
4. Get a bigger data plan. Netflix, social media and FaceTime take up a lot of data!
5. Have fun! This seems like a no brainer but sometimes after being on the road for a long time, you start to forget how awesome it is that you are making music and playing shows for a living! It’s amazing!! I remind myself every day that I could be working at a job I hate, and I’m so blessed to being doing what I love!
