In this Preshow Rituals segment, the singer-songwriter, Casey Conroy, reveals what she does before taking the stage. You can check out the story, after the break.
On days that I’m SUPER lucky, my favorite pre-show ritual is sleeping in! (I pretty rarely get this lucky but we’ll just pretend I do). I’m a total 8 hrs of sleep kind of girl so I love using the excuse “I’ll probably be out super late tonight”, to stay in bed as long as I want and feel super rested. As soon as I’m up, my mission of drinking as much lemon water as possible begins and I fill my first bottle up on the way to workout. Exercise is one of my most essential pre-show routines because it helps keeps my energy up and later when I’m on stage, those extra squats give me a boost of confidence!
Post-breakfast, my next two consistent pre-show routines are 15 minutes breathing with my steam inhaler (I’m naturally very congested so this is a MUST) and going over the show with my deodorant stick as a microphone and any wall as my audience. When I practice the show from start to finish on my own it really helps me visualize the performance and get in the right mindset. I’m embarrassed to say, it’s also my time to practice new dance moves to see if they’ll eventually get to make it into the set.
When soundcheck is over and I’m dressed and ready for the show it’s all about the music and the self-pep talks. I’m all about putting my headphones in and listening to music that’ll hype me up! Right now some of the artists on my pre-show playlist are Benee, Lucky Daye, and Bad Bunny. I’m also the world’s best self-pep talker, so if you ever happen to see me talking to myself pre-show, I promise I’m not totally crazy!
