We are lucky enough to have gotten the acoustic pop sensation, Chase Coy, to agree to write a Road Blog for us while he is on his summer U.S. tour! The tour is called the “Faces of the Fight Tour” and it will be hitting all major U.S. cities. Check out his third update from the road after the break.
I would like to focus this blog on the day off I spent in Savannah.
I went to Lady and Sons, a restaurant started by Paula Deen. It was the most delicious food I’ve ever had in my life.
It all started when we were driving downtown and found the perfect parking spot…
We drive an extended 15-passenger van, so garages are pretty much off-limit to us, and once street parking becomes free in the evenings, it becomes nearly impossibly to find a spot. Our search is typically made even more difficult by the fact that we also need to be able to fit the van into said spot. Well, as were driving around looking for spaces near the restaurant, someone pulled out of an end spot. This made it extremely easy to pull the van right in: it was a parking miracle.
Next we made our way to the restaurant, where you typically have to put your name on a list that can include a wait of hours before you would get a chance to have your meal. We got in right away with no problems.
As we entered the building, we were ushered to a majestic elevator that led us to the second floor, where our feast of soul food awaited us.
First, a starter of cornbread hotcakes and cheese and garlic biscuits were brought to our table. We looked at our menus, and I took a bite of my biscuit while I waited. It was even better than the biscuits at Red Lobster.
We all opted to get the all-you-can-eat buffet. I started with come fried chicken, mashed potatoes, baked beans, and mac and cheese. Suffice it to say that it was all out of this world. The mashed potatoes were fluffy and flavorful, the mac and cheese was creamy and delicious, and the baked beans were sweet but tangy, an old Paula Deen family recipe.
But the thing that stood out most by far was the fried chicken. It nearly fell off the bone it was so tender, and the breading was some ancient secret recipe handed down for generations, and thank goodness it had been! What a shame if modern society would have to exist without the wonder of this decadent breading. It was phenomenal.
Lastly, they brought us out our dessert, banana pudding. It tasted as if the bananas had been freshly picked from the trees of Mt. Olympus for just such an occasion as this. The perfect ending to the perfect meal.
We played some shows and did some other stuff in the past couple days, but honestly this is the only thing I can remember. It was THAT good. Anyway, I’ll have more updates for you soon, so stay tuned!
