In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the country musician, Dan Davidson, shares one of his stories from being on the road. You can check out the story, after the break.
Well, back in my old rock band, Tupelo Honey, we were playing the Molson Indie in Toronto. It was the easiest gig in the world – we would play between the races in the VIP tent – maybe 30 mins of work for the whole day. Nothing much to do but have some beers in the sun. We ended up making friends with the Molson promo team since they ALSO had nothing else to do… they eventually invited us to this rooftop party with Johnny Knoxville and a bunch of his entourage was hanging out.
We cabbed downtown and started walking towards the address… I knew we were getting close because a couple of beer bottles were smashing on the sidewalk (falling from the rooftop patio). So we get up there, trying to play it cool and chatting a bit with Johnny. It was ok – nothing too crazy really until this girl dropped her purse down the crack between the building we were at and the building next to us. Johnny became obsessed with rescuing the purse. So Johnny, me, and a couple of my band guys stole all the hangars in the coat check of this place. We fashioned a 40-foot-long hook and Johnny dangled precariously far down between the buildings as his buddies held his legs. Somehow, managed to rescue the purse and not die.
