My pre-show rituals start the second I wake up. I go on vocal rest all day, which means not talking at all and using a whiteboard or google translate to talk for me until soundcheck. This is equal parts inconvenient and hilarious. Next, I’ll do my hair and makeup – I like to take my time on show days because it has to last me all day and throughout the show, and then also till about 2 am because we love any excuse to celebrate. Then, I’ll pick out a fit and probably change four times because I’m tragically indecisive and somehow hate all my clothes on show days. Then I’ll head to the venue for soundcheck where we set all our gear up and make sure everything sounds perfect. After, we usually have a couple of hours to kill so I’ll grab an early dinner with my team and band and head back to the venue before the doors open. In the green room, I’ll touch up my makeup and hair and get changed into my outfit, still trying to talk as little as possible while chugging tea and honey. I’m always super excited all day on show days because performing is one of my favorite things I get to do as an artist. About 15 minutes before I go on, I start to get super anxious and nervous. That’s when I’ll kick everyone out of the green room and take a few minutes to warm up my voice and body again. I’ll also tell myself affirmations about the show, like “everyone is going to love the show you’ve prepared”, “your fans will know every word” “you will be poised and confident” “your voice will sound great, and you won’t fuck up any lyrics” etc. I’ll make sure my in-ears are set and do last looks in front of the mirror and then it’s show time.
