1. Never skip breakfast. Even if you were up partying the night before like Van Halen circa 1984, set your alarm for at least a half an hour before the complimentary breakfast closes and get your rockstar hangover on down to the lobby. You don’t need to scare the children and stench up the joint with your aroma of groupie and jägermeister sweat, just stock up on apples, bananas and muffins for the long drive through West Texas and get outta there.
2. Be good to the people you meet on the road. You’ll end up seeing them far more often than you will your friends. When budget is tight, you’ll always have a place to crash for the night. Oh, don’t forget a gift of some sort for your host… beer, wine, Hallmark card all work wonders.
3. Bring a frisbee. It’s an instant morale boost for the group on a long stretch of drive. Stop for gas, get outside, run around a bit, and have a good laugh. Remember, you’re on a “road-trip” with your friends. Have some fun.
4. Don’t Stress. Anything and everything will happen and go “wrong”. Just remember to not leave anyone behind and you’ll be good to go. If you do, just drive back the 112 miles to get them and you’ll laugh about it after tour (personal experience). Think of the alternative… would you rather be stuck in a cubicle doing TPS reports or making memories?
5. And finally, mouthwash and baby wipes are a must (See Tip #1). Don’t ask questions, just do it and thank us later. We’ll see you on the road. Cheers!
