In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the indie pop band, daysormay, shares one of their stories from being on the road. You can check out the story, after the break.
In August 2019 we were on tour opening for Tessa Violet. It was about a 2-week run, we started in Philadelphia and ended in Pensacola, Florida. Tessa really introduced us to a whole new fanbase and a whole new touring experience. Every crowd at every show had so much energy and it was kind of a dream come true for us.
To save money on hotels, we were booking rooms the day of, often at night after we played. After the second show, we showed up at our hotel in Virginia. When I got into my bed I noticed it was kind of damp. Uncomfortable but not unmanageable. Then in the lobby the next morning, we brought up the beds with Tessa’s crew and they also had been down with the dampness. This set a precedent for our hotel bed experiences to come on the tour.
Sometimes we’d show up at the hotel so late they wouldn’t have many rooms left. Usually, we’d get a room with two beds, and then we’d Rock Paper Scissors to decide who got one of the beds to themselves.
One night, it was my turn to have the bed to myself. I had been stoked all day thinking about not having to sleep with either Carson or Nolan for a change. But then we opened the door to our room to find only one bed. So we pulled out the Rock Paper Scissors to decide who had to sleep in the middle. Carson lost. We were pretty cool with it being a one-time thing, but then it happened again. Carson lost again.
Also, we rented an Airbnb in Orlando, and when we got there, there was a glass of white wine and a used diaper just chilling by the pool. I know that has nothing to do with the beds but I don’t know how to end this.
