Designer Disguise – PRESHOW RITUALS

In this Preshow Rituals segment, the alternative metal pop band, Designer Disguise, reveals what they do before taking the stage. You can check out the rituals, after the break.

We at Designer Disguise have gone through a lot of turmoil, changes, and challenges over our time as a band. However, we always come together and make things happen. This preshow ritual is a happy reminder of what we’ve been through and who we are now.

So before going on stage we don’t get messed up. We used to play drunk and stuff, but a couple of embarrassing shows ended that. Basically, one time two of our members blacked out (one was me haha) and there is a video of us just like being dumb and drunk on stage and it is mortifying to watch haha. So we tend to try and be healthy before the shows, drink lots of water and stay loose. We like to get into a fun state of mind before the show so our favorite preshow ritual is doing our barbershop harmonized version of singing “We Rule.”

So the first person put their hand in the middle and sings “we” (on do), the second person puts their hand on that person’s hand and sings “we” (on mi), the next person does the same (on sol), then the last person goes (singing on a ti). Then we toggle down a half step on eeee and then we toggle back up a half step to “rule.” So we end up singing a major 7 chord and moving down and up on a half step with the words”we—eeee-rule”. Then at the end, I sing “YEAHHH” super loud and high, and then we all laugh. It’s goofy and fun, I actually learned it from my acapella group in college. Anyway, we are music nerds so that explains that pre show ritual haha.
