Detachment

In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the metalcore band, Detachment, shares one of their stories from being on the road. You can check out the story, after the break.

We were on our first tour in Dearborn, Michigan playing a skatepark. We’d never played a skatepark before and a lot of people showed up so it was a great show, but also extremely memorable for this particular incident. After our set, the band that we were touring with was playing. I was sitting on one the turnpikes so I had a good view of the band and the crowd. Both my guitarists were in the crowd, our bassist was in the van and I had no idea where our singer was. Their singer was noticeably gay in how he sang, looked and moved on stage. I see this shirtless hillbilly looking dude dancing similarly to how the singer was dancing. He was also grabbing his ass and practically spanking himself right in front of the band. He was mocking the singer for being gay and making a complete jackass of himself in front of everyone. This angered my guitarist Nick who was really getting ready to throw a punch but my other guitarist pulled him back. This other gentlemen comes up to them and says, “I’ve had it with this dude, if you take the first swing I will step in and help you out.” Nick agreed, he took a swing, hillbilly dude hits the ground, he charges right for Nick but Roberto my other guitarist steps right in and says “BACK THE FUCK UP.” He wouldn’t listen so the other gentlemen steps in and a complete brawl goes down. Mind you, this was all information that I learned after it was over. From my perspective watching it as it erupts right before me, all I saw was this drunk idiot dancing like a jackass, and then next thing I know my guitarists are beating the shit out of him. Everybody came up to us saying “you have no idea how long we’ve waited for someone to put that guy in his place.” We became the heroes after that. It prompted us to name the song that we had written at the time, “Dearborn.” The song has nothing to do with this event but because we didn’t have a name for the song yet, this just prompted us to name it that.

Keep up with the band on Facebook and Twitter.
