Tip One (keeping the van clean): For the next several months the van is basically your room, but also, the rest of your crew’s room. If you want to live a sane normal life driving down the I-80, then make sure to keep the van super clean and smelling super fresh. Also, this helps when you want to have parties in your van or invite guests over. You always want to maintain 100 when keeping the van clean.
Tip Two (never sleep in a van parking lot): If you can, just spend the extra bucks and get a hotel room for you and yours. If you really want to spend the next three months with a bunch of pissed off tired people, then, by all means, the Wal-Mart parking lot is the place to be. But, if you want your dudes or dudettes to be showered, happy, and well rested, then just put aside the extra money to get some nice beds and so, me warm walls. PLEASE.
Tip Three (flying hungover is a bad move): Make sure that before you get on the plane to travel to Europe or some far away destination, that you are not super hungover. I know from many experiences that flying on a plane for 6 hours while feeling the pain from the night before, is probably the worst mistake you will ever make in your life.
Tip Four (be happy and enjoy your life): If the tour is rough and not going well, make the best of it. This is what you’ve been wanting to do since you were a child. Have Fun! Enjoy the scenery around you and don’t be such a Debbie downer! It ruins the vibe in the van and also could lead to Tip One.
Tip Five (If you are going to stay over, then let the band know): Look, hookups happen, I get it. But if you are going to sleep over at someone’s house, then make sure to get up early and take some responsibility about arriving to load-in at a decent time. You don’t want your crew tracking you down, which could lead to, you guessed it, Tip One.
