All of us are prog fans here at earth7 so of course, we have to list the most influential of the instrumental prog-metal genre today! Of course, if we were able to mastermind a dream tour of our own choosing we’d love to share a tour bill with Plini and Intervals, one of, if not our greatest influences. Plini’s EP trilogy forever made its mark on not just us, but the whole scene, with its perfect balance of heavy and light, and its use of cross-record motifs. And we all feel that Intervals’ second album The Shape of Colour is without a doubt a landmark record of the genre. We saw Plini back when he joined forces with Aaron Marshall from Intervals and opened up for Animals as Leaders as Plintervals– a line-up all of us agree is both their best in not only sound but energy and musicianship as well.
Another band it’d be a dream to open for Chon. All of us are massive Chon fans, as you might be able to tell from some of our tunes, and as such, they hold a special place in our band’s collective heart(s). Their first EP Newborn Sun really left a huge impression on the compositional style and our playing as a whole, almost singlehandedly serving as the gateway record to the rest of that proggy, ‘djenty’ scene. These guys never fail to put on an entertaining show, especially back in their Homey tour. Throwing beachballs around the crowd and the stage while ripping sick licks and riffs without breaking a sweat, these guys know how to get their crowd pumped!
We mentioned them briefly a few moments ago, but Animals as Leaders are some of our role models. They’re a band most of us grew up listening to and drew so much inspiration from stylistically and nothing would complete that dream tour more than kicking back in the green rooms with these monsters! Their third record The Joy of Motion we still hold up as the model album, the gold standard of modern progressive metal with the jazz-fusion tinge. Hearing these pieces live just added a whole other dimension to the music, seeing their intense energy focused into playing these intricate pieces– otherworldly!

Keep up with the band on Facebook and Instagram.
