EMME - PRESHOW RITUALS
Join us as EMMA reveals what she does before taking the stage.
In this Preshow Rituals segment, the singer-songwriter, EMME, reveals what she does before taking the stage. You can check out the rituals below:
Before a show I like to keep my day pretty open to keep myself feeling relaxed and my head clear. Throughout the day I’ll make sure to drink lots of water and go on a walk to listen through all my songs and visualize myself performing them.
As it gets closer to the show we’ll head over to soundcheck and make sure everything is sounding and feeling good with my band. Getting on the stage beforehand really helps me to visualize how the show will look and feel. And making sure everything is running smoothly helps to calm my nerves and feel excited for the show.
After soundcheck I may go eat something light as long as it’s not too close to the show time, and I’ll meet up with my parents who are usually at all my shows. It means so much having them there and I’m so grateful that they’re able to come.
Then I’ll head back to the green room where I’ll warm up starting with full body stretches to loosen up and then some breath work. From there I’ll start humming through lip trills to warm up all parts of my voice, and then move into more complicated vocal exercises like arpeggios, etc. And as it gets closer to the set time, I typically keep to myself to stay in a good headspace and save all my energy for the show. But before going out, I’ll get in a group huddle with my band to make sure they’re feeling good and ready, and then we’ll do a group chant that we make up before heading out on stage together. The moment we get on stage everything feels like it’s finally come together.
