Eric Zayne – CRAZY TOUR STORIES

In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the pop artist, Eric Zayne, talks about some of his crazy moments from touring. You can check out the feature, after the break.

One of the scariest moments on tour was when I was doing a Canadian tour and was coming from Toronto heading towards Halifax, it was the middle of February winter, – 13 Fahrenheit and I’ve been driving for 6 hours when I realized that the road had changed. I had an old GPS that wasn’t updated. My other band members were sleeping in the back, I hadn’t had a signal for about 2 hours. The road got narrow and there were no more street lamps. It was 2 am and we were in the middle of nowhere, hadn’t seen a car either in an hour. Then the road suddenly turned to dirty, that’s when I realized that there were 2 bars left of gas in the van. This was a bad situation. No reception, no food, no water, no gas, and no one around for hours. I had no idea where that road went but I hoped that it wasn’t a dead end cause we would be screwed. Some people have died this way in old Canadian roads in the middle of winter. I woke up my Kylie and Dave and they noticed a wood sign on the road numbered 17, a minute later 16, by the time we got to 12 the gas register showed 1 bar. Snow and ice on the road, it was eerie.. we had just finished 12 shows in a row from west to east. We all stared at the road and counting down the numbers on the signs on the road wondering “what happens at 0”….the GPS turned completely green and we were a blue dot in the middle of it. We were all silent. By the time we go to 2 the gas gauge was blinking…. “what happens at zero…” 1……gulp…then 0 came and it felt like Moses parting the seas, cause suddenly the road opened up and let us into a highway and a gas station. We barely made it, that could have been bad. The next day we heard that the same situation happened to an old couple last week, they ran out of gas and the man told his wife to stay in the car while he goes and gets help. The found the wife days later almost hyperthermic on the verge of death in her car. Her husband was never found. It really made me respect life and how lucky we are to be alive…I always remember that moment.
In Canada, cities are far from each other, some of them 10 hours away from each other back to back. In the states it’s easier, you have cities everywhere. One of the things I love the most about touring is that some of the stories you just can’t make up.
