Essence – TOUR PRANKS

In this Tour Pranks segment, the metal band, Essence, share a prank from the road. You can read their story, after the break.

This was actually a prank that was pulled on us while we were supporting Hypocrisy on one of their European tours in 2013. As you know it’s always tradition for the headliner to tease the support band a little at the last show of the tour, and the Hypocrisy guys and the crew had told us for days that we would not be spared. We tried to figure out what they were up to, but we couldn’t, so for a couple of days we were wondering, “what are they going to do”? Of course we knew that they wouldn’t do anything serious, because they are all super nice guys! But it was still annoying that we didn’t know what was happening, and they kept mentioning it (maybe it was part of the prank to annoy us with it). When we got to the last show our tour manager came up to Lasse with a really really ugly hat and said that they would not do anything if Lasse played the first song wearing the hat. Being the teamplayer that Lasse is he agreed to it and completed the first song of the set with the hat on, and we thought that was it. But when we got to the last song we saw a couple of the guys from the band and some of the crew standing with big grins at the side of the stage. As soon as we started playing, they started to pack down our gear. They mostly targeted our drummer who was left with a highhat and a bassdrum at the end of the song. And our tour manager decided that Mark’s solo would sound a lot better on the clean channel. Turned out it didn’t haha. But jokes on them! We didn’t have to pack the whole drumkit after the show!
