Essenger – TOUR PRANKS

Having no real touring musicians or crew with me, as a solo artist I often find myself being the victim of my own comical mishaps.

I fully punked myself a couple shows ago when I’d been using my show laptop to run a Minecraft server with some friends and forgot to shut down the game before loading in. I got up on stage and noticed my live software was running rather slowly but thought nothing of it.

Halfway though my second song, I heard the unmistakable sound of a door slamming shut in the game as well as a few other ambient sounds. Now fully aware of my predicament, I scanned the audience, locking eyes with the sound guy who recognized exactly what was happening and was choking back laughter. Reluctantly I held my breath and pulled up Minecraft to assess the situation.

The game window came up and I was in my house in the game, face to face with a villager NPC, staring at me with those cold unrelenting eyes. Silently pleading for him not to let out his notorious “HUHHH” vocalization, an eternity seemed to pass before the game finally closed. I was safe again.

Though not from the handful of people in the crowd who’d caught on. To this day they still won’t let me forget.
