My mom had a high-risk pregnancy with me and had to be in bed for almost 8 months. When I was in her belly she would have a cellist come over and give us a concert, does that count as my first haha? Maybe that is why I was born loving music and dreaming of becoming a singer at a very young age. As I got older I learned to play the piano and my love and passion for music only grew stronger. My parents had a huge music collection and we’d listen to something different every day. I particularly fell in love with Michael Jackson. My dad loved to watch concerts and he’d always put on one called Live Aid, which was a dual-venue concert organized to raise funds for the relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine. I’d sit there and watch it with him and dream of going to a concert.
My dream finally came true when my biggest idol, Belinda, performed at the Palacio de los Deportes in Costa Rica on August 31st, 2007. I was 7 years old and up to this day, I can remember every moment. It was one of the most exciting experiences of my entire life. I was extremely lucky that the first concert I went to was of my favorite artist and not something my parents dragged me along to or anything like that. I was so excited because after seeing so many concerts on TV I was dying to know what it felt like to be at one in real life. What made it extra special is that I got to go with my best friends thanks to our beautiful moms, who came up with that plan.
We arrived at the concert holding hands, jumping, screaming and dancing around. When we got to our seats we couldn’t sit down due to the excitement. Then… all of a sudden… the lights went off and some music began to play. The moment we had been waiting for was so close. Just a couple minutes later Belinda came out singing and the crowd was cheering so loud you could barely hear it. The lights, the music, the dancers, the screens… it was a dream come true. At that moment not only did I realize how deeply I loved music, but how my dream was not only to go watch a concert… it was to perform and be on a stage sharing my music.
