Ok so this wasn’t my first show but it is my favorite. I was driving to work before I was in the band going to my day job in Atlanta. I was listening to my favorite R&B station on the radio V103 my free money station. The DJ announced that Prince was gonna play an impromptu show at the Atlanta Civic Center.
This is right after he became his royal purpleness again and switched back from The Artist Formerly Known as Prince to just plain ole genius Prince. I did what anyone would do that was supposed to be going to work, but would rather go and see Prince in a 2000 capacity room. I pulled on to the side of the highway called Ticketmaster at the time and bought 5 tickets.
I went home and found something purple to wear and showed up downtown. I was like I can’t believe that I’m going to see Prince. He walks out on stage with no opener and asks the crowd if we minded if he jams? The whole place erupted. We all danced like crazy. He jammed for 45 min and he played every instrument on stage. Then he took a short break because he knew we all had to pee from sheer excitement. Then he came back and played every hit. For the next 3 hours, it felt like we were at first ave in Minneapolis in the movie purple rain. It was the best show I have ever had the chance to see. I was fired from my job the next day. I guess this is what it sounds like when doves cry.
