Flight Brigade – DREAM TOUR

In this Dream Tour segment, the alternative band, Flight Brigade, let you know who they would like on their ultimate tour lineup. You can check out the feature, after the break.

“Our Dream Tour”
Whilst we all love rock music, we come from different places musically, our drummer, Neil, is a metal-head, who’ll disappear to Germany for the night to catch Coheed and Cambria whilst our violist is a classically trained soloist, so our dream tour would be varied. However, we know the key to a happy band is democracy -so in that spirit -five of us have put forward our ‘collective dream tour’ for the fine folk at Digital Tour Bus!
Dorry Macaulay, electric violin & vocals
CHOICE: Kate Bush
I know she doesn’t do long tours, so this one really is reaching into the realms of fantasy. Can you imagine getting the chance to stand backstage in the wings and watch Kate Bush! Just thinking about it brings me up in goose-bumps! Like most musicians, I’m not alone in being mesmerized by her authenticity & originality, combined with incredible guts and outrageous talent. I’d love to see what she’s like in normal life, backstage, what her rituals are, what books she reads, films she watches, I’d soak it up like a sponge!
Neil Blanford, drums
CHOICE: Nine Inch Nails
My dream tour would have to feature Nine Inch Nails, they will always have a place at the top of my list. Trent Reznor was one of the first artists to succeed in fusing the modern, maybe even futuristic, sound of electronics and drum machines with the raw power of hard rock music. His constant pursuit of perfection and new directions for his sound is a massive inspiration. The fact that a song like ‘Head Like A Hole’ was written in 1989 and still sounds relevant today is a testament to just how ahead of his time Mr. Reznor was, so I’d just love to be around him and see what makes him tick
Oliver Baines, lead vocals, guitar
CHOICE: Death Cab For Cutie
I’d have to choose these guys, they’re such a great band who’ve been making strong albums since 1997 & are still crushing it live. They combine amazing songwriting with interesting lyrical topics and they somehow seem to generate a lot of energy & intensity even in their slower songs. It’d be fascinating to hang out with a band who’ve toured together all over the world and pinch some of their survival tricks.
Thomas Pink, lead guitar
CHOICE: Queens of the Stone Age
Queens of the Stone Age – I first heard Queens when I was 16 years old, and it really changed the game in my thoughts as to what rock music could sound like. Lullaby-like melodies pitted against dark and ferocious guitar sounds? Yes, please. In terms of live playing, they have an unbelievable energy, and just the most badass power to their sound. If we were on tour with them I’d be in every amp cabinet, trying all their guitars, trying to distil some of their magic. I’d make a real nuisance of myself. Josh Homme is a musical hero of mine, so I’d probably follow him around a lot, try and become his best mate.
Miriam Baines, vocals, synth
CHOICE: Patti Smith
I’d choose Patti Smith because she’s a living rock legend that just can’t be contended with! We actually crossed paths with her a few years back when we played Hop Farm Festival. We were backstage, in the artist’s canteen eating pasta when someone asked, ‘is anyone sitting here’, we look up and it’s Patti Smith! We shook our heads, speechless, with gormless grins on our faces, a rock-goddess had just descended! I remember trying not to stare at her thinking, she’s so petite, so relaxed… then next thing we know, we’re watching her in front of thousands of people, rocking out seriously hard and she’s electric, completely magnetic – it’s hard not to be a fan. I’d love to re-live that experience on tour!
