After load in, soundcheck and Matt running around like a headless chicken trying to set everything on stage, our pre-show rituals are usually pretty straightforward.
We like to take in our surroundings at the venue, have a laugh and generally try to relax. We’ll go grab a drink and a few pictures for our social media (As we’re all social media crazy like the rest of the world these days…)
After the vogue poses and cheesy smiles, in most cases, you’ll find Ross warming up his guitar, so he doesn’t feel like he’s “just come out of the office shift and shoved straight on to stage”.
Otto will be wiping down his bass so it’s super slick for his entrance…not to mention how many slides he has to perform during a set…he really loves Matt for making him destroy any remaining skin on his fingers…(Sorry Otto!)
Si equals – kicking back with a can or two, counting the BPM and messing around with Mainstage on the MacBook.
Matt is still running around trying to locate a lost in ear, arranging the set list or maybe in the bathroom with a cider performing a vocal warm up.
As a band, we like to have a sequence of actions regularly carried out before a gig to ensure everything is prepared. In doing so it helps us to be in the right frame of mind and put on the best possible performance for any potential audience member.
1 minute until stage. Play is hit on our intro track. And we’re off.
