Our pre-show ritual consists of relaxing, drinking beers, staying focused on the set list that we are about to perform, and before we take the stage we always circle up and bow our heads for some words of encouragement from our band members and management team.
We really are like a family (two of us are actual brothers) with the amount of time that we spend together, so that is what makes our pre-show ritual so simple. We are so used to being around one another and playing shows all the time that we don’t necessarily get nervous or anxious. When we play on stage it is just like we are all jamming at one of our practices, but the crowd has joined us this time.
Our pre-show ritual usually starts with the sound check when Madison and Marcus (brothers and both lead vocals) begin warming up their voices. Sometimes we will sing a little Frank Sinatra, which always surprises the sound engineer, to get the voices warmed up or sometimes we will start with one of the singles off our album titled “Typhoon”.
After sound check, that is when we begin to relax and maybe have a few drinks backstage and just hang out with our band members and management. Madison will break out the Ukulele, where him and Marcus begin to freestyle, Tanner (guitarist/bassist) will start laying some strings down, Kevin (guitarist/bassist) will get some lead guitar going, and Jeff (drummer) might start hammering away at the bongos/Cajon and before you know it, we have made a song up backstage right before we take the stage. This helps us stay loose and focused on the music aspect because it is all about having fun when it comes to us.
Every time before we take the stage, this is where we all circle up with our arms on each other’s shoulders and we say a few words of encouragement. This is where we really hone in our focus and zone in on what is about to take place on that stage. At the end of our circle, all the band members and management take a shot of 151 from a Bacardi bottle to help open up the universe. This really is what gets us amped up for the show because when this moment happens, we know we are about to take the stage and rock the best show of our lives for the crowd that has come to see us.
