Always have snacks! On the road, you never know exactly when your next time to eat will be and for me, low blood sugar is just not an option! So, I always like to have protein bars, fruit, and nuts to hand.
Consciously enjoy the great moments that being on tour brings. It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of getting from one place to another but taking time to really take in and enjoy the new cities and experiences is something I’ve really been working on and enjoying greatly. Keeping a journal and taking photos/videos to capture the memories is another thing I’ve found very fun and anchors you.
Have an amazing data plan. I’m not even joking. My good friend recommended 3 because they don’t charge you more for traveling around the U.S and Europe and as someone who Facetime’s her family at least once a day, 4G is literally one of my best friends.
Try to find time to move your body! If you spend all day sitting in a van then most of the evening sitting backstage you can start to go slightly stir crazy without building some kind of exercises into your day. I’ve found that YouTube videos have a great selection of short tutorials and I do one every morning in my hotel room. Ballet Beautiful by Mary Helen Bowers and Bodyfit by Amy are some of my favorites at the moment.
Fighting to stay healthy on tour! It’s easy to get lost in late nights, eating out and free alcohol on tour. I don’t drink when I’m working and try to find as many opportunities to eat anything green as possible. It’s harder than you think, but if you turn it into a game it’s much more fun. I always have a packet of Matcha green tea powder on me so I can mix it with a water bottle and instantly have something green. Gives me a little boost of energy without the caffeine jitters from coffee!
And finally, just enjoy getting to travel the world, sharing your music, doing what you love. It’s a rare and beautiful thing that I never take for granted. To arrive in a city you’ve never been and play to a room full of people that feel like old friends is a weird and magical feeling. One I hope never ends!
