Given the current state of the world and all the social restrictions that make up our “new normal”, live shows are pretty non-existent. Getting ready to go on stage, being able to connect with people in person through music rather than through a screen – these are the things I miss so much about performing. For me, there’s no greater feeling than the adrenaline that comes with playing a live show or the excitement of getting ready for one. The Virgo in me keeps me very organized and you can say I’m somewhat of a creature of habit, so these are a few of the things I’d do before a show back in the day (when large crowds were a thing!).
I keep my space pretty chill in order to center myself and get in a good headspace before a show. Palo santo and incense really help me to set the ambiance straight, so you already know those scents are filling my room. I’m pretty streamlined and have a close team that I rely on. I love surrounding myself with people who bring out the best in me, especially before a performance. Energy is everything.
Self-care is also important for me to feel grounded. I’ll do my skincare routine – face masks, gua sha, jade roll… the works! Also, having the right outfit is key to making me feel confident and comfortable. I don’t currently work with a stylist, so I’ll spend a significant amount of time pulling the right look together. I’m obsessed with thrifting, so I love finding one special piece to incorporate into my fit for each show.
In terms of vocals, my routine is pretty minimal. I start with my go-to warm-up that I have saved on my phone from one of my first vocal coaches. An oldie but a goodie! I almost always take a shot of olive oil, too. I read somewhere that the oil is supposed to coat and soothe your throat (and prevent you from cracking). Don’t know if that’s true or not, but it’s part of my ritual now before each show.
Aaaaand that’s about it! I try to keep things simple and grounded not only before shows but in most areas of my life. The energy you surround yourself with is sooo important. Since live shows seem to be a thing of the past (for now) connect with me on IG! We’ll be doing lots of lives and you’ll get tons of new music, I promise. So until we meet again on stage, sending you biiiig love :)
