Alright, let’s see your Duality signs everyone. That’s basically all I saw this past Friday night at Bottom Lounge when I went to the “Glamour Kills Spring Break Tour” featuring Set It Off, Against the Current, As It Is and Roam. Due to complications at the venue’s box office, I wasn’t able to make it in the venue in time for Roam’s set.
This was Set It Off’s first U.S. headlining tour and I am so glad I got to be a part of it. I am a long time fan of them since their Horrible Kids days and actually the first time I had seen them live was at Bottom Lounge a few years back and I’ve been hooked ever since. They are a great group on and off stage. If you ever have the pleasure of seeing them live, you will see how humble they are and how thankful they are to have fans at all. As Cody Carson said to the crowd during the show “We don’t say family for no reason, you are our fucking family.” Coming on stage and singing all the fan favorites such as “The Haunting”, “Dream Catcher”, “Enemy”, “Miss Mysterious”, “Tomorrow”, “Why Worry”, “Ancient History” and more. They had the crowd singing along and crowd surfing as well. If you have never seen them live, you are missing out. Catch them at a later date of this tour or on the Vans Warped tour all summer! I’m sure these boys will be back soon with yet another tour up their sleeve, it seems like it’s in their blood.
The main support act was Against the Current. I will say that before seeing them live, I hadn’t really listened to them because they never caught my attention. After this show though, best believe I went home and listened to more of their music. They are great live and Chrissy, the lead singer, goes hard on stage. She may look small but she sure is energetic and her voice is amazing. Joining her on select songs were Cody Carson, from Set It Off, and Patty Walters, from As It Is. I love that they even did their newly released version of “Uptown Funk”. If you haven’t already go listen to it and while you’re on their youtube channel check out “Gravity”, “Paralyzed”, and “Another You, (Another Way)” and you may just find yourself buying tickets to their next show.
Before Against the Current went on, UK band, As It Is took the stage. This is their first U.S. tour and with already just completing an album, they have taken the underground music world by storm. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many fans singing along to an opener who just put out their first album, since Marianas Trench back in 2010 when they came here on their first U.S. opening for Simple Plan. I have been waiting to see As It Is ever since I found out about them through Patty Walter’s personal YouTube channel. I was so excited when I found out they had signed to Fearless Records and came out here to record their album, “Never Happy, Ever After”. I was even prouder when they got announced for this tour and seeing them on stage, you just know it’s where they belong. They too were so grateful for having fans there and being able to be on stage. Patty Walters told the crowd, “Our first U.S. tour to see so many people knows our words and give a shit is incredible.” If you miss these Uk boys on this tour, then you better make sure you see them on Warped as well! I know this won’t be their last tour and I can see them doing a headlining tour in the future. Learn the words now to “Dialtones”, “Concrete”, “Horoscopes”, and “Can’t Save Myself”.
