GUS – CRAZY TOUR STORIES

On the Teenage Fever Tour in 2019 I almost missed the Montreal show! It was the fourth date of the tour and we had just been in Toronto the day before. All my friends and family came to the Toronto show so, naturally, I rushed out afterward so I could see them all before boarding the tour bus and heading to Montreal. I caught up with my friends, went out for dinner with my parents, and had a really fun night before going back to the bus at midnight. To provide you with some context, I brought a keyboard on tour with me that I would play during my set and it was my responsibility to make sure the keyboard and its stand got on and off the bus before and after every show. I bet you can see where this is going.

I arrived in Montreal, the city where I attend university, and again had a great day. I saw some friends, went for a long run with the band, things were looking good. When it was time for soundcheck, however, I went to the bus to grab my keyboard and realized I left the stand in Toronto! Long story short I missed soundcheck and went on a wild goose chase to find a music store that was A: open later than 5pm on a weekday and B: had the type of keyboard stand I needed. 2 hours later and completely out of breath I arrived after having walked 20 minutes with a heavy box from the subway station. I arrived at the venue (much later than I was supposed to) and didn’t tell anyone about my careless mistake. The show that night was one of my favourites and definitely one of the loudest crowds of the tour so who knows— maybe my new keyboard stand was good luck?
