1. Be Healthy! Obey the sleep schedule, obey the diet. Nothing wears you down quicker then not getting enough sleep or eating right. If you have driven all this way to perform for people, the last thing you want is to be too tired to kick ass.
2. Make space for personal time, figure out a way to be able to get some alone time. Being on a van, onstage, in a tight sleeping spot, etc. makes for many many hours of being together. Love your band, but know having a little space will help keep everyone sane.
3. Create a budget and stick to it. Figure out the mileage from location to location, look at gas prices in each area- they are different. Plan. Your tour will be so much more enjoyable and productive.
4. Be Positive. Any tour for an extended amount of time will mimic life, there are ups and down. Be positive and always look to be your best, people in the crowd will most certainly appreciate it and most importantly, so will your band mates. No one likes a whiner.
5. Play in places you can easily come back to. Repetition is key. Yes a one off show in Costa Rica could be awesome. But think about the reasons you are touring. If your primary reason is to BUILD a fan base then you must BUILD it. Which means you will likely have to play frequently and repeatedly in each market.
