One summer evening in Tucson, Arizona we were playing outside in 100-degree weather and had all been sick with a virus that was being passed around the tour. Jason’s mom and a group of our friends had all come to that show and we wanted to play well for them no matter how bad we felt. The show actually went really well and the crowd was amazing. Just after everyone had left, though, Jason got extremely sick and had to be rushed to the hospital with severe dehydration. They couldn’t even draw blood. After two full IVs of fluid though he started to come back to life and was feeling much better. The crazy part about this story is, at about 2am there was a bunch of chaos in the hallways and people yelling things we couldn’t understand. The hospital got put on lockdown and we were stuck in our room. Apparently, a kid was shot and his friends had driven him up to the entrance and pushed him out of the car in the street. They were afraid there could be gangs coming there to finish the job. Sadly, the kid didn’t make it and we were pretty shaken up by it. After a few hours of stabilizing, Jason was able to be checked out and we got back to the bus just before they were going to leave for the next city. The road is a wild place sometimes. The key is, stay hydrated and don’t get sick.
