Holy Boy – PRESHOW RITUALS

In this Preshow Rituals segment, the alternative artist, Holy Boy, shares what she does before every show. You can check out her rituals, after the break.

When it gets close to showtime I like to either go all up or all down – channeling the energy of anticipation into something that works for me… Otherwise, it can feel like nerves. It’s a bit like trying to get the best out of an electric current – you want to use it to power you not let it fry your system.

To calm down I like to do some writing, meditate, maybe put on some chakra incense to relax, although that’s easier said than done if there’s a lot going on! To get revved up I love watching Youtube videos of old live shows, there’s so much you can find if you go digging – there’s some amazing footage of Siouxsie & The Banshees’ early 80s tours, shows with The Stooges, Patti Smith, and her band… Lately, my collaborator Dylan Long and I have been watching a lot of Radiohead stuff from the late 90s.

Getting into a good atmosphere is really important to me, no matter where I am *physically* I like to cultivate a deep vibe in my own world so I can bring that to my performance and do justice to the music and the audience.
