The first concert that I can remember being at was Brian May and his band playing in my hometown. I must’ve been around four or five years old and Brian’s probably been my first real influence as a guitar hero. My parents had been listening to Queen and so I was growing up with all these amazing songs rushing through my ears. But the one song that would leave the biggest impact was „Hammer To Fall“ with those huge sounding intro chords! I mean what a sound! That’s basically the guitar tone I fell in love with right away.
So anyways my dad took me to that show which was taking place outdoors. I remember sitting on my dad’s shoulders the whole time and I can still picture Brian May playing as only he can right there in front of me with all the heads of the crowd below me. The greatest feeling ever haha!
As the show went on it became pretty late to the point when it was actually time to go home and put me to bed buuut there was one huge problem: So far they didn’t play „Hammer To Fall“!
So I started protesting relentlessly which didn’t go unnoticed to the people standing around us until my dad agreed to watch right until the end.
He played the song as an encore. I was the happiest boy in the universe in that moment.
Until this day Brian May kept his place on my list of biggest guitar heroes ever.
Thanks, dad :)
