I was on the road with the bird and the bee and we were not on a bus, but in a van. We were staying at a hotel. I believe we were somewhere in New York? I was sitting at breakfast waiting for everyone to come down to the lobby. We had an early call because we had a long drive ahead of us. Fortunately, I had all my bags downstairs with me.
All of a sudden the fire alarm started going off. If you’ve stayed in hotels as much as we have, you don’t always take the fire alarms seriously. So as everyone started coming downstairs we just sort of ignored the alarm. Even the staff in the hotel were ignoring it. There were probably 6 of us traveling together.
As more of the band stumbled downstairs it became clear that there was actually a fire. And there were some of us in the band who still had bags upstairs in their rooms. So they rushed back upstairs to retrieve them. From what they told me, there was smoke in the halls. There were sprinklers going off.
Everyone made it downstairs safely. But as we were driving away and the fire trucks were pulling up we realized how stupid it was to rush back up into a burning building. Luckily everyone was safe. But it still seems like one of the crazier things I was a part of on the road.
