Let’s start off by saying that this is basically “Izzy and the No Good, Very Bad, Turned Pretty Freaking Awesome” day. I woke up in the morning feeling a bit tired and my best friend (and tour manager) Josh told me to just suck it up – it was the 2 nd of 5 shows in a row and I didn’t have time for feeling crappy, right? So, I have 4 cups of coffee (way more than my usual 1.5) and go back to my hotel room to get ready. Then, I found out our call time is 8AM… And it’s already 7:30… And the venue is half an hour away. So, I rush to get ready and we – thankfully – make it to the venue in time.
Everything went okay from then until the actual show. It started raining right before my set and I was about ready to freak out. Our stage can be super slippery and people HAVE fallen off before. So I don’t fall off during my performance, BUT as I’m running (like an idiot) down the ramp, I slip and fall on my butt, BOUNCE up in the air twice, and fall again twice. Yikes.
Then after the show, we’re making the four-hour drive to the next town. I’ve changed into my sweatpants and old ratty hoodie and look like a total bum. Also, we’ve finished an extra large pizza between the two of us so I’m in a food coma. We get to the hotel and are checking in when I hear my dad say “Oh, hey, Drake!” I turn around to see none other than the headliner, Drake Bell aka my childhood crush and one of my musical idols.
I freak out! I mean this dude is the definition of cool and I look like I rolled out of bed. I pull my hoodie over my face and pull the drawstrings so tight that I look like Kenny McCormick from “South Park” (and sound like him too, since my voice is so muffled). However, the conversation soon turned to all things Disney, and being a Disneyphile like Drake, we had an awesome chat!
So, my day started off pretty bad, but at the end of the day I’d become friends with my hero! All in a day of touring, I guess. :)
